Volleyball Drops Two Skyline Matches On Senior Day

        THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 23, 2011) – The Maritime volleyball team lost in three sets to both NYU-Poly and Sage on Saturday at a home Skyline Conference tri-match at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium. Prior to the action on the court, Coach Liz Praetorius held a Senior Day Ceremony to honor the Privateers' two graduating seniors, Nicole Pearson (Jamestown, N.Y./Southwestern) (Jamestown, N.Y./Southwestern) and Natalie Jackson (Stockton, Calif./Bear Creek) (Stockton, Calif./Bear Creek).
 
        Maritime falls to 4-14 (1-8 Skyline) with the two losses, NYU-Poly won both their matches and 18-14 (6-2 Skyline) and Sage split to move to 13-19 (3-5 Skyline).
 
        Both players saw action on Saturday, as Pearson got an honorary start at libero and played one point before coming out due to her season-ending leg injury. Jackson had the best afternoon for the Privateers, recording a team-high 17 kills and 21 digs. She had a double-double against Sage with 11 kills and 12 digs. Junior Claudette Killian (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Lima Christian School) (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Lima Christian School) had 29 assists over the two games while classmates Jerrica Romero (Bronx, N.Y./Herbert H Lehman) (Bronx, N.Y./Herbert H Lehman) and Lauren Johnson (Lansing, Mich./Holt) (Lansing, Mich./Holt) recorded 20 and 18 digs, respectively.
 
        For NYU-Poly, senior Victoria Kalvert had a match-high 13 kills against Maritime, while junior Corey Loupee had 23 assists and five aces. Senior Melissa Pona matched Jackson's match-high with nine digs.
 
        Sage was led by freshman Helen Putriment, who recorded a double-double with team-highs in kills (10) and digs (11). Sophomore Joanie Cooney registered 21 assists.
 
        Maritime returns to action on Monday for the team's season-ending match on the road against the Culinary Institute. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. up in Hyde Park, N.Y.
