Hockey Defeats Hofstra, 6-4, Friday Night; Takes On Columbia Tonight In Hackensack

        THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 15, 2011) – The Maritime hockey team defeated Met Hockey Conference opponent Hofstra University last night at the Parkwood Sports Complex in Great Neck, N.Y. The win improves the Privateers' record to 2-3-1 overall (2-1 MCHC) on the season.
 

        Maritime got on the board first with the only goal of the first period when senior Jesse Wynn (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund's Prep) (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund's Prep) lit the lamp off assists by sophomores Steven Altini (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) and Dillon Dolansky (Monroe, N.Y./John S. Burke Catholic) (Monroe, N.Y./John S. Burke Catholic).
 

        In the second, the Privateers doubled their lead on a goal by freshman Tanner McWain (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan). Freshman Thomas Kirby (Rockaway Park, N.Y./Xaverian) and grad student Kevin Ihde (Brick, N.J./Marist) (Brick, N.J./Marist) picked up assists on the score. Then Hofstra scored three straight goals to take a 3-2 lead before Dolansky and McWain both scored power play goals to give Maritime the lead right back. Sophomore Ross Freund (Westbury, N.Y./Chaminade) (Westbury, N.Y./Chaminade) had the primary assist on both goals, while Wynn assisted Dolansky's goal and junior James McManus (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) assisted on McWain's.
 

        The third period saw the Privateers get an insurance goal over eight minutes in, when junior Taylor Carsch (Hockessin, Del./AI Dupont) (Hockessin, Del./AI Dupont) found the twine of assists by senior Cullen Bozza (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown) (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown) and freshman Vincent Pedulla (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey). Hofstra would score again to make it a one goal game, but Maritime would put the game away with a shorthanded empty net goal by Freund.
 

        In goal, freshman Harris Burger (Davie, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) (Davie, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) picked up his first collegiate win with 31 saves. For the Pride, Nicholas Guberti made 24 saves in the losing effort.
 

        The Privateers return to action tonight when they travel to take on MCHC-foe Columbia University. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m. at the Ice House Rink Hackensack, N.J.
