Volleyball Swept By Mount Saint Mary In Skyline Action Monday Night

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 10, 2011) – The Maritime volleyball team fell in straight sets to visiting Mount Saint Mary College on Monday night in Skyline Conference action. The scores of the match were 25-11, 25-11 and 25-18. The Privateers record drops to 4-10 overall (1-5 Skyline), while the Blue Knights improve to 11-9 (6-0 Skyline).
 
Maritime had two players recorded a team-high five kills: junior Lauren Johnson (Lansing, Mich./Holt) (Lansing, Mich./Holt) and senior Natalie Jackson (Stockton, Calif./Bear Creek) (Stockton, Calif./Bear Creek), while junior Jerrica Romero (Bronx, N.Y./Herbert H Lehman) (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman) picked up a match-high 17 digs. Junior Claudette Killian (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Lima Christian School) (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Lima Christina School) registered 14 assists on the night.
 
Mount Saint Mary was led by two players, senior Teresa Sorrentino and junior Mary Anne Raftery, who each had a match-high eight kills. Senior Heather Schaeffer picked up a team-high 10 digs and junior Lauren Halverson chipped in with 18 assists, while freshman Samantha Sagendorph had 12 helpers.
 
The Privateers return to action on Wednesday night, when they welcome Purchase College for another Skyline showdown. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium.
