GREAT NECK, N.Y. (Jan. 30, 2011) – The Maritime hockey team won its eighth straight game Saturday night, 6-2, over Met Hockey opponent St. Thomas Aquinas at the Parkwood Sports Complex. The victory improves the Privateers' record to 14-7 overall (11-2 MCHC), while the Spartans fall to 1-12 in MCHC action.

The Privateers jumped on the board first at 10:54 of the first period, when junior Daniel Tyx (Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) (Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) found the back of the net after a pass from freshman Jeff Dolan (Floral Park, N.Y./St. Mary's) (Floral Park, N.Y./Saint Mary's) to give Maritime the 1-0 lead. Later in the first, freshman Steven Altini (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph By the Sea) lit the lamp to give the Privateers a 2-0 advantage. Just under two minutes later, STAC scored to cut their deficit to 2-1, but Maritime responded quickly 17 seconds after with 1:45 remaining in the opening period when freshman Nick Galli (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) (Staten Island, N.Y/St. Joseph By the Sea) scored from junior Tom Mehmet (Little Neck, N.Y./St. Mary's) (Little Neck, N.Y./St. Mary's).

In the second period, sophomore Frank Castelli (Little Neck, N.Y./St. Francis Prep.) (Little Neck, N.Y./St. Francis Prep.) tallied a goal after obtaining the puck in the neutral zone and sneaking through the two defenders for a breakaway. St. Thomas scored just 21 seconds later, however, to cut the Maritime lead to 4-2.

The third period saw the Privateers add two more insurance goals, as senior Dylan O'Malley-Joyce (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) found the back of the net on a pass from Jeff Dolan (Floral Park, N.Y./St. Mary's). Later in the period, while Maritime was on a power play, junior Jesse Wynn (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund's Prep) (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund's Prep) lit the lamp after getting his own rebound to close out the scoring in the game. Freshman goalie Zach Dietrich (Point Pleasant, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) (Point Pleasant, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) was stellar in net with 20 saves to secure the victory.

Maritime returns to action tonight, when the squad travels to Morristown, N.J., to take on Met Hockey-rival County College of Morris. Game time is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. at CCM's Mennen Rink.
