            THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Jan. 29, 2011) – The Maritime basketball team lost on the road to conference-foe Purchase, 76-74, Saturday afternoon at the Panther Pavilion. The Privateers fall to an overall record of 8-10 (6-7 Skyline), while the Panthers improve to 14-4 (10-3 Skyline).

            Senior Giovanni Hurley (Brooklyn, N.Y./Middle College High) (Brooklyn, N.Y./Middle College High) recorded a double-double with 22 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Classmate Quamel Lyerly (Inwood, N.Y./Lawrence) (Inwood, N.Y./Lawrence) chipped in with 23 points and seven boards, while junior Mike McSloy (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) contributed 19 points in the losing effort.

            The Panthers, who overcame an eight-point second half deficit for the victory, were led by senior Marvin Billups who had a game-high 33 points on 11-for-18 shooting from the field and 11-for-13 from the free-throw line. Classmate Charles Thompson registered a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

            Maritime returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 2, when the squad plays host to Skyline-opponent Mount Saint Mary. Game time against the Blue Knights is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium.
