BRONXVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 21, 2010) – The Maritime volleyball team spent this past weekend up in Castine, Maine competing in the Maritime Volleyball Classic, where the squad faced a tough schedule against Mass. Maritime, Maine Maritime and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point. The Privateers lost their three matches at the tournament. On Monday, the squad traveled up to Sarah Lawrence College and fell to the Gryphons in straight sets, 3-0. With the losses, Maritime falls to 0-7 overall on the season.
In the four matches, the Privateers were led by sophomore Jerrica Romero (Bronx, N.Y./Herbert H Lehman) (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman), who had a team-best 16 kills and 24 digs, while sophomore Krystal Miranda (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) recorded 20 assists and 19 digs. Rookie Megan White (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) had 23 digs over the weekend and last night, while freshman Natalia Martinez-Colon (Allentown, Pa./William Allen ) (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) and senior Natalie Warren (Peachtree City, Ga./Homeschooled) (Peachtree City, Ga.) had 18 and 17 digs, respectively.
The Privateers return to action on Thursday when they play host to Medgar Evers of the CUNYAC Conference. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium.
