GREAT NECK, N.Y. (Nov. 30, 2010) - In front of a large group of students and fans, the Maritime ice hockey team defeated its arch-rival from across the Long Island Sound, Kings Point, 11-2, Monday night at the Parkwood Sports Complex in Long Island. The win improves the Privateers' record to 9-7 on the season.

"This was a great game for us, we came out strong and played a solid 60 minutes," said head coach Matt Garofalow. "It was also great to see so many of the Maritime student body in attendance for the game, it added to the rivalry of the game."

Maritime's special teams played extremely well, as the Privateers scored six power play goals and two shorthanded goals in the victory. Freshman Nick Galli (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph By the Sea) scored his third hat trick of the season.

Sophomore James McManus (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) scored the first two goals of the game just over four minutes apart in nearly the same fashion, a slapshot from the right point. Kings Point responded with a goal, but Maritime answered right back when freshman Ross Freund (Westbury, N.Y./Chaminade) (Westbury, N.Y./Chaminade) found the back of the net on another slapshot from the point. Freshman Patrick Masterman (Norfolk, Va./Hargrave Military Academy) (Norfolk, Va. / Hargrave Military Academy) rounded out the scoring in the first period with a tally with 46 seconds left to play, sending Maritime into the locker room up 4-1.

The Privateers controlled the play in the second period, scoring four goals, including two on the power play and one shorthanded. Galli scored the first of his three while falling down at even strength with six minutes left to play in the second. A goal by freshman Steven Altini (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph By the Sea) sent the Privateers into the locker room with an 8-1 advantage. Through two periods of play, freshman goalie Zach Dietrich (Point Pleasant, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) (Point Pleasant, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy), who earned the win on the night, recorded 14 saves while allowing just one goal.
