THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Jan. 27, 2010) – Maritime junior Shamair Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) was named to the Skyline Conference men's basketball weekly honor roll for his efforts during the Privateers' 2-1 week last week, the conference announced on Monday. This is Williams second time being named to the honor roll, as he also received the accolade on Nov. 30.

Williams led Maritime with 19.0 points per game last week, notching double-figures in all three games. The junior had 16 points in the 77-67 road loss to St. Joe's on Tuesday, before helping the Privateers rebound to a big win over first-place Old Westbury, 73-68, with a season-high 31 points on 13-of-19 shooting from the field. Williams then added 10 points in the 60-43 win over Yeshiva on the road on Saturday.

The 6-4, 210-pounder out of Brooklyn currently ranks in the top 10 of the Skyline Conference in two categories: sixth in 3-point field goal percentage (.385) and eighth in scoring (13.3 points per game). Three other Maritime players join Williams among the league's top 10 statistically: Seniors Andre Cooper (Baltimore, Md./Southwestern) and Adedokun Olanrewaju (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) and junior Giovanni Hurley (Brooklyn, N.Y./Middle College High). Cooper is fifth in the conference with 15.8 points per game and seventh with 3.46 assists per game, while Olanrewaju ranks second in three different categories: rebounding (8.3 per game), field goal percentage (59.2-percent) and free throw percentage (82.0-percent). Hurley is seventh in the Skyline with 2.00 steals per game.

As a team, Maritime ranks first in the conference with just 60.7 points allowed per game, a +12.6 scoring margin, 49.5-percent shooting from the field and a +6.6 rebounding margin. The Privateers also rank second in the Skyline with 35.0-percent shooting from 3-point range.

Maritime returns to action tonight, Jan. 27, when the squad travels up to Annandale-on-Hudson to take on Skyline-opponent Bard (1-16, 1-11 Skyline). Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Raptors' Stevenson Gymnasium.
