THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Jan. 25, 2010) – The Maritime hockey team, led by freshman Daniel Tyx (Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East)'s five points and a hat trick by sophomore Cullen Bozza (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown), scored a season-high 15 goals to defeat visiting Stevens, 15-3, Saturday night at the Parkwood Sports Complex in Great Neck, L.I. With the victory, the Privateers improve to 5-7 overall (4-7 MCHC), while the Ducks drop to 3-9.
15 of the18 players dressed tallied a point in the victory, with eight Privateers recording multiple points. Maritime had a total of 10 different players score a goal. Tyx led the way with two goals and three assists, followed by Cullen with three goals. Junior Dylan O'Malley-Joyce (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) scored two goals and chipped in an assist, while freshmen Taylor Carsch (Hockessin, Del./AI Dupont) and Sean Dougherty (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) each tallied a goal and two assists, apiece.
Senior Ian Charity (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) scored two goals in the win and junior Brandon Blitz and sophomore Tom Mehmet (Little Neck, N.Y./St. Mary's) each had a goal and an assist to round out the players with multiple points. Sophomore Stephen Schork (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) and freshman James McManmus scored a goal apiece, while senior Patrick Ferrie (Point Pleasant, N.J./Desales), sophomores Greg Dolan (Floral Park, N.Y./St. Mary's) and Jesse Wynn (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund's Prep) and freshmen John Jackson (Pawling, N.Y./Amherst Central) and goalie Matt Tatarian (Deer Park, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills) all contributed an assist.
Tatarian was strong in goal for Maritime, turning aside 10 of Stevens' 13 shots on the night.
The Privateers return to the ice on Sunday, Jan. 31, when they travel to Poughkeepsie to take on Met Hockey Conference opponent New Paltz at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
