THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Jan. 19, 2010) – Maritime senior-transfer Adedokun Olanrewaju (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) was named the Skyline Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday after his performances in the Privateers' three-straight wins last week over conference-opponents Mount Saint Mary, Sage and Mount Saint Vincent. This is the second time this season that Maritime had a player earn the accolade, as senior Andre Cooper (Baltimore, Md./Southwestern) was also named Player of the Week on Dec. 7.
Olanrewaju led the Privateers with a team-high 19.0 points per game last week, a remarkable 65.6-percent shooting from the field (21-for-32) and 86.7-percent shooting from the free throw line (13-for-15). His 7.4 rebounds per game ranked second on the team. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native picked up his second double-double of the season when he recorded 19 points and 10 boards against Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday.
The 6-5, 210-pounder is the Skyline Conference leader in field goal percentage (67.1-percent) and free throw percentage (85.7-percent), while also ranking fourth in the conference in scoring (15.4 ppg) and sixth in rebounding (7.4 rpg).
Cooper, Maritime's leading scorer, ranks third in the Skyline with 16.3 points per game and fifth in the conference with 3.7 assists per game. Juniors Giovanni Hurley (Brooklyn, N.Y./Middle College High) and Shamair Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) also rank among the Skyline's top-five, as Hurley is fourth with 7.7 rebounds per game and Williams is fifth with 40.7-percent shooting from beyond the three-point arc.
As a team, the Privateers lead the conference in scoring defense with just 60.2 points allowed per game, a +14.9 scoring margin, 51.1-percent shooting from the field, keeping opponents to just 39.7-percent shooting, a +7.5 rebounding margin and 10.45 steals per game. Maritime also ranks second in holding opponents to just 36.5-percent three-point shooting and is third in scoring offense with 75.1 points per game.

The Privateers (8-3, 6-2 Skyline) return to action tonight, Jan. 19, when they travel to Patchogue, Long Island, for what will be a battle for second place against conference-foe St. Joseph's (10-3, 6-2 Skyline). Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
