GREAT NECK, N.Y. (Dec. 7, 2009) – The Maritime hockey team defeated the Ice Hawks of New Paltz, 4-1, Sunday night at the Parkwood Sports Complex to end a small two-game losing streak. With the win, the Privateers improve to 4-5 overall (3-5 MCHC), while the Ice Hawks fall to 2-7 overall and in MCHC action.
New Paltz tallied the first goal of the game with 10:37 to go in the opening period, but Maritime quickly responded less than two minutes later when sophomore Cullen Bozza (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown) scored unassisted at 8:43. Junior Dylan O'Malley-Joyce (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) gave the Privateers the 2-1 lead with 3:34 to play in the second period when he scored off a feed from sophomore Tom Mehmet (Little Neck, N.Y./St. Mary's).
Maritime added two late insurance goals by senior Keith Fricke (White Plains, NY/White Plains) and freshman Daniel Tyx (Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East). Both tallies were unassisted. In net for the Privateers, freshman Matt Tatarian (Deer Park, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills) faced 24 Ice Hawks' shots and stopped 23 of them to pick up the win.
The Maritime ice hockey team returns to the rink for the final time in 2009 when they travel to Hackensack, N.J. to face Columbia on Sat., Dec. 12, before winter break begins. The puck drops at 7:45 p.m. at the Ice House Rinks.
