THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Dec. 3, 2009) – The Privateers basketball team had five players score in double-figures, including a game-high 23 from junior Justin Bright (Brooklyn, N.Y./Park West), en route to an 81-54 victory over conference-opponent Bard Thursday night at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium. With the win, Maritime improves to 3-2 overall (1-1 Skyline), while the Raptors fall to 0-5 (0-3 Skyline).
Junior Shamair Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) had 14 points with four assists, while senior Andre Cooper (Baltimore, Md./Southwestern) had 13, also with four assists. Senior Adedokun Olanrewaju (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) had 11 points with five rebounds and junior Andrew Geisel (Media, Pa./Penncrest) had 10 points and four rebounds. Junior Giovanni Hurley (Brooklyn, N.Y./Middle College High) brought down a game-high eight boards.
The Privateers shot 14-for-29 (48.3-percent) in the first half, including five 3-pointers, to jump out to a 47-27 lead that they brought into the intermission.
In the second-half, Bard captured the early momentum, nailing three from beyond the arc to bring the deficit to 14 points, 54-40. However, the Privateers got a layup by Bright at 9:08 to go up 21, 65-44, and never let the lead go under 20, cruising to the 81-54 final.
Bard turned the ball over 26 times, leading to 37 points off turnovers for Maritime. The Privateers also dominated points in the paint, 38-18, as well as second chance points, 20-10.
Maritime returns to the court on Saturday, Dec. 5, when the squad plays host to Skyline-foe Yeshiva. Game time is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. at the Riesenberg Gymnasium. The game can be heard live on the internet for free by clicking here.
