Women’s Soccer Shut Out By St. Joseph’s, 3-0

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (Oct. 6, 2009) – The Maritime women's soccer team fell to conference opponent St. Joseph's-L.I., 3-0, Tuesday night at Diamond in the Pines out in Suffolk County. With the loss, the Privateers fall to an even 6-6 overall on the season with a 1-3 record in Skyline action, while the Golden Eagles improve to 3-9 (2-2 Skyline).

 

An early goal for St. Joseph's would prove to be the game-winner as Elyse Tomasello converted after a pass from Kaitlin Arthurs just 1:29 into the game. Tomasello would strike again in the 35th minute to give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead, an advantage they would take into halftime. In the second half, St. Joseph's added its last goal on a tally by Ciara Grennen in the 57th minute.

 

In net for Maritime, freshman Courtney Marietta turned aside 15 of the Golden Eagles 18 shots on goal.

 

The Privateers return to action on Friday, Oct. 9, when they host West Coast-opponent, Mill College from Oakland, Calif. Kickoff against the Cyclones (1-6) is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
