THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College women's soccer team welcomed Yeshiva to Reinhart Field on Tuesday night. The Privateers (3-6-1, 2-4-0 Skyline) led 1-0 at halftime before scoring four second-half tallies to notch a 5-0 victory over the Maccabees (0-4-0, 0-4-0 Skyline).
Despite outshooting Yeshiva 45-5, Maritime didn't break through until the 30
th minute.
Divine Awoleke (Queens, NY) hit a streaking
Emani Abdool (Islandia, NY), who flicked it past Rena Neiger for the game's opening tally.
It would remain that way until the 70
th minute, when
Eva Garcia (Rockville Centre, NY) doubled the Privateers' advantage. After her 73
rd-minute shot was deflected in by the defense for an own goal, Garcia netted her second tally of the contest in the 77
th minute. She dribbled down the right side and cut inside a defender before putting it away to complete a brace. Awoleke headed home a rebound off Abdool's attempt that was saved in the 85
th minute to finish off the scoring in the 5-0 triumph.
With her eighth and ninth goals of the year, Garcia moved into the team lead. Abdool's tally was her eighth, and she was also credited with her fourth assist this season. Awoleke's goal was her first since Sept. 9 at Lehman.
In her first game back from injury, goalkeeper
Devon Etienne (Garden City, NY) (2-3-1) recorded her eighth career clean sheet. She was credited with one save. Neiger (0-4-0), meanwhile, made 17 saves in a losing effort for Yeshiva.
On Friday, Maritime continues its six-game homestand with a 5 p.m. matchup against Old Westbury (2-3-2, 1-3-1 Skyline). The Privateers will honor their senior class prior to the contest.
