THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 4, 2009) – The Maritime volleyball team lost to Bard, 3-1, on Sunday at the Riesenberg Gymnasium. The Privateers match against Sarah Lawrence was postponed to a later date. With the loss, Maritime falls to 3-7 (0-3 Skyline) on the season, while the Raptors improve to 4-8 (1-2 Skyline).
Sophomore Natalie Jackson (Stockton, Calif./Bear Creek) recorded a triple-double, registering a match-high 15 kills, a team-high with 23 assists and 15 digs. The Stockton, Calif., native also registered five service aces and one block in the loss. Freshman Lauren Johnson (Lansing, Mich./Holt) had a double-double with 11 kills and a match-high 24 digs, while contributing to the hitting with seven assists. A total of five Maritime players recorded double-digit digs, as junior libero Natalie Warren (Peachtree City, Ga./Homeschooled) had 16, freshman Jerrica Romero (Bronx, N.Y./Herbert H Lehman) recorded 15 and junior Kotomi Pestridge (Marathon, NY/Marathon) rounded them out with 10. Senior Marissa Danzy had eight kills and five blocks, while freshman Donna Pellegrino (Valley Stream, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) registered three solo blocks.
Maritime won the first set, 28-26, by coming from behind and forcing extra play, but the Raptors took the next three straight by scores of 29-27, 25-17 and 25-22.
The Privateers return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 6, when they travel to face the College of Staten Island in the southernmost borough of New York City. First serve against the Dolphins is scheduled for 7 p.m. at CSI's Sports & Recreation Center.
