THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 26, 2009) – The Maritime hockey team lost to first-place Fordham, 8-1, on Saturday at the Parkwood Ice Rink in Great Neck, N.Y., before rebounding to defeat the County College of Morris, 6-3, at the Mennen Sports Arena in Morrisville, N.J. on Sunday. With the split, the Privateers improve to 2-2 on the season (1-2 in intra-divisional games), while the Rams improve to 5-0 and the Titans fall to 1-1.
In the 6-3 win on Sunday, sophomore A.J. Noeldechen (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) got things started for Maritime, banging in a rebound on the power play. Senior Keith Fricke (White Plains, NY/White Plains) later scored for the Privateers by stuffing home a rebound after a breakaway by freshman Dan Tyx.
Sophomore Cullen Bozza (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown) scored Maritime's third goal when Tyx hit him with a pass as he was streaking to the net and he fired the puck passed the CCM goalie, he then added his second goal of the game later on a breakaway. Tyx finally scored a goal of his own on a breakaway, wristing into the twine for the Privateer's fifth goal. Senior Matthew Franzek (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst Central) tallied Maritime's final goal in the win on a wrist shot from the slot.
In net, freshman Matt Tatarian (Deer Park, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills) was solid for Maritime, stopping all but three of the Titans' shots on goal.
The Privateers return to the ice this Saturday, Oct. 31, when they play host to conference-foe St. Thomas at the Parkwood Ice Rink in Great Neck, N.Y. First faceoff is scheduled for 4:45 p.m.
