THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 13, 2009) – The Maritime volleyball team was swept by conference-opponent Purchase College, 3-0, tonight at Riesenberg Gymnasium. With the loss, the Privateers fall to 3-11 (0-6 Skyline), while the Panthers improve to 7-16 (2-4 Skyline).
Maritime got two kills from freshman Jerrica Romero (Bronx, N.Y./Herbert H Lehman), who hit a .200 clip. Senior Marissa Danzy had three aces, two digs and two blocks and freshman Lauren Johnson (Lansing, Mich./Holt) picked up a team-high seven digs to go along with two service aces.
The scores of the match were 25-9, 25-12 and 25-16.
The Privateers return to action on Sunday, when they travel to Baruch College to take on Yeshiva and Pratt in a tri-match. First serve with the Maccabees is scheduled for 10 a.m., while action gets underway against Pratt at noon.
