NEWBURGH, NY – An own goal gave the Maritime College men's soccer team a late 3-2 lead at Mount St. Mary on Tuesday night. The Knights (2-5-1, 2-0-1 Skyline) got an equalizer less than two minutes later, though, to secure a 3-3 tie against the Privateers (2-5-1, 1-2-1 Skyline) at Kaplan Field. It marked the second straight season and the third time in four years that the sides played to a draw.
Mount St. Mary opened the scoring in the 29
th minute when Guilherme Martins put home a feed from Noah Christian. Just before halftime, Maritime tied the game on a goal by
Finn Richmond (Cold Spring Harbor, NY). The Knights went back in front after William Zelaya found the back of the net in the 51
st minute.
After Mount St. Mary goalkeeper Landon Mabe saved a Richmond shot in the 63
rd minute, the rebound went right to
Carson Sadler (Gilford, NH). He headed it home to level the score at 2-2. The Privateers then took the lead in the 86
th minute when the Knights' defense attempted to clear a deep throw in, but ended up deflecting it into their own net. However, Brady Patrick scored on a header off Isaiah de la Espriella's corner kick with only 2:26 remaining in the contest.
Sadler's goal was his third of the season. He was also credited with an assist on the opening tally. Richmond, meanwhile, found the back of the net for the first time this year and the fifth time in his Maritime career.
Aidan Slovensky (Manorville, NY) (2-5-1) started between the pipes for the Privateers and recorded three saves. Mabe (2-4-1) was credited with six saves for Mount St. Mary.
On Saturday, Maritime returns to Reinhart Field for a 3 p.m. matchup with Sarah Lawrence (3-4-3, 1-2-0 Skyline). The contest follows the women's game between the Privateers and Gryphons at 12 p.m.
