THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College men's soccer team took a 2-0 lead on
Carson Sadler's (Gilford, NH) 55
th-minute goal against Sarah Lawrence on Saturday afternoon. However, the Gryphons (3-4-4, 1-2-1 Skyline) scored twice in the final 35 minutes to earn a 2-2 draw with the Privateers (2-5-2, 1-2-2 Skyline) at Reinhart Field.
Maritime went in front 1-0 when a corner kick was deflected into the goal by a Sarah Lawrence defender in the 33
rd minute. After not benefitting from an opponent's own goal since the 2019 NCAA Tournament prior to Tuesday night, the Privateers have now done so in back-to-back games. Sadler then doubled the advantage with his team-leading fourth tally of the year.
In the 61
st minute, Ivan Pudelka, who had just entered the game, brought the Gryphons within 2-1. Sarah Lawrence then got an equalizer in the 86
th minute. After a Rhys Roberts shot was saved by
Aidan Slovensky (Manorville, NY), the rebound fell right at the feet of Kairos Diaz, and he tapped it in to secure the 2-2 draw. It was Maritime's second consecutive tie, as well as the third straight draw between the sides at Reinhart Field.
Slovensky (2-5-2) finished with five saves. The Gryphons' Jonah Zalis (1-4-4), meanwhile, stopped seven Privateers shots.
On Tuesday, Maritime returns to action with a matchup against Yeshiva (3-2-2, 0-2-2 Skyline). The time and location of the game are yet to be determined.
