THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College men's soccer team hosted Manhattanville for the first time since 2023 on Friday night. With the oncoming nor'easter creating windy and rainy playing conditions, the Privateers (2-5-0, 1-2-0 Skyline) dropped a 2-0 decision to the Valiants (6-1-3, 3-0-0 Skyline) at Reinhart Field.
Maritime had an early scoring chance, but
Carson Sadler's (Gilford, NH) shot from the center was stopped by Manhattanville goalkeeper Dwayne Brown II. Koky Duarte then gave the Valiants a 1-0 lead in the 11
th minute. He took a cross on the left side, cut into the middle, weaved his way through two defenders, and snuck one past
Aidan Slovensky (Manorville, NY) to put Manhattanville on the board. The Valiants almost doubled their lead in the 34
th minute, but Slovensky turned away back-to-back attempts to keep it a one-goal game.
In the 54
th minute, a miscommunication by the Privateers' defense resulted in an own goal that increased Manhattanville's advantage to 2-0. Sadler had a pair of solid scoring chances over the final 10 minutes. He was unable to find the back of the net, though, and the Valiants came away with the 2-0 victory.
Slovensky (2-5-0) registered five saves in the losing effort. Brown (2-1-0), meanwhile, tallied three saves while posting a clean slate between the pipes. Duarte's goal was his second of the year for Manhattanville.
After playing three straight at Reinhart Field, Maritime hits the road on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. matchup at Mount St. Mary (2-5-0, 2-0-0 Skyline). Four of the Privateers' next six contests are away from home.
