THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College men's soccer team did something on Saturday that it hadn't done since 2018. Win its Skyline Conference opener. After beginning league play with a draw in each of the last three seasons, the Privateers (2-3-0, 1-0-0 Skyline) started their 2026 Skyline campaign by notching a 5-0 victory over St. Joseph's Brooklyn (1-2-2, 0-1-0 Skyline) at Reinhart Field.
Maritime took control with a four-goal barrage in the first half.
Carson Sadler (Gilford, NH) got the scoring started when he put away a
Nicolas Silva (Middle Village, NY) feed in the 15
th minute.
Yakob Muller (Mineola, NY) found the back of the net after dribbling up the left side in the 20
th minute, then
Jeferson Blanco (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) made it 3-0. Muller added his second goal of the half in the 32
nd minute, increasing the Privateers' advantage to 4-0 at halftime.
It would remain that way until the later stages of the contest. In the 85
th minute,
Kevin McManus (Whitestone, NY) connected with
Georgios Tsatalios (Athens, NY), who netted his second goal in Maritime's last three games. That tally completed the scoring in the Privateers' second consecutive 5-0 triumph over the Bears.
Muller's brace represented his first two goals in a Maritime uniform. Blanco's tally was his team-leading third of the season, while Sadler and Blanco each scored for the second time this year. Privateers goalkeeper
Aidan Slovensky (Manorville, NY) (2-3-0) made a pair of saves and notched his second clean sheet. St. Joseph's Brooklyn's Edwin Sacramento (1-2-2), meanwhile, was credited with nine saves.
This marked the start of a span where Maritime plays five out of seven at Reinhart Field. The string continues when the Privateers host Farmingdale (2-5-1, 0-1-0 Skyline) at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
