THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College men's soccer team picked up its first victory of the season on Saturday. Four different players found the back of the net for the Privateers (1-2-0) in the 4-0 triumph over Hunter (0-3-1) at Reinhart Field.
It was still scoreless when a handball in the box gave Maritime a penalty kick late in the first half.
Jeferson Blanco (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) stepped up to the spot and put it past Hawks goalkeeper Max Tsigalnitsky, sending the Privateers into the locker room with a 1-0 lead. Maritime earned another penalty kick early in the second half. This time it was
Eric Frimpong (Modena, Italy) who took it, and he put it home for his first collegiate tally.
Barely a minute after Frimpong's PK, the Privateers increased their advantage to 3-0.
Georgios Tsatalios (Athens, Greece) dribbled into the middle of the box and found
Carson Sadler (Gilford, NH) on the right side. Sadler tapped it in for his first goal of the year. Tsatalios added a score of his own in the 74
th minute, when he sent a left-footed blast from just outside the box into the lower left corner of the net.
Maritime outshot Hunter 19-9, including a 13-4 edge in shots on goal. The Privateers also had a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks. Tsigalnitsky (0-1-1) was credited with nine saves in a losing effort, while
Aidan Slovensky (Manorville, NY) (1-2-0) made four saves while notching his first career win and shutout.
On Wednesday, Maritime heads to Albertus Magnus (1-3-0) for a 7 p.m. matchup. It will be the Privateers' final game before the start of Skyline Conference play.
