OLD WESTBURY, NY – Eva Garcia (Rockville Centre, NY) had a career-high six goals and
Michelle Pecoraro (Kings Park, NY) tallied eight points, as the Maritime College women's lacrosse team (2-5, 2-2 Skyline) notched a 16-4 victory over Old Westbury (0-7, 0-5 Skyline) at Panther Park on Tuesday.
Garcia scored each of the Privateers' first three goals, as Maritime built a 3-0 lead after the first quarter. After the Panthers pulled within 5-2, she found the back of the net again to start a run of three Privateer tallies in 44 seconds.Â
Paige Grider (Oak Ridge, NJ) capped the rally at the 4:00 mark, putting Maritime ahead 8-2 at the break.
The Privateers picked up right where they left off in the third quarter, outscoring Old Westbury 5-0 in the period to extend their advantage to 13-2. The Panthers halted the run at eight straight goals midway through the fourth quarter before Pecoraro netted back-to-back tallies less than a minute apart. Garcia then added her sixth goal of the game with 2:07 left to put Maritime up 16-3. Ashley Maniscalso notched a late score for Old Westbury to make it a 16-4 final.
In addition to her six goals, Garcia picked up three ground balls. Pecoraro finished with four goals and four assists, while Grider also notched a hat trick to go along with an assist and four draw controls.Â
Mia Brandenstein (West Islip, NY), meanwhile, paced the Privateers with five ground balls and three draw controls.Â
Hannah Honor (Smithtown, NY) (2-5) played the first three quarters in goal and made two saves.Â
Clio Liff (Bronx, NY) was credited with one save in the fourth quarter.
For the Panthers, Ciana Kunen led the way with two goals, three ground balls and five draw controls. Stefany Donnolly and Annabella Runyan each collected three ground balls, as well. Old Westbury goalkeeper Jara Gonzalez (0-7), meanwhile, recorded 10 saves.
Maritime hits the road again on Friday for a 4 p.m. matchup with Farmingdale (4-8, 3-1 Skyline). It will be the first meeting between the teams since the Rams defeated the Privateers in the semifinals of last season's Skyline Tournament.
