THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College women's lacrosse team wrapped up its non-conference schedule by hosting Ramapo on Friday. The game was tied 2-2 with 5:12 remaining in the first quarter, but the Roadrunners (5-6) followed with a 6-0 run to take control in an eventual 17-8 win over the Privateers (1-5) at Reinhart Field.
Ramapo scored just 34 seconds into the contest and extended its lead to 2-0 at the 11:11 mark of the first quarter before
Paige Grider (Oak Ridge, NJ) and
Eva Garcia (Rockville Centre, NY) both found the back of the net to pull Maritime even. The Roadrunners ended the opening period with four straight goals, though, then built an 8-2 cushion with 12:20 left until halftime. Garcia snapped the Privateers' scoring drought with 4:20 remaining in the half, bringing Maritime within 8-3 at the break.
Ava Morrill (New Windsor, NY) notched the first tally of the third quarter to cut the Privateers' deficit to four at 8-4, but Ramapo rattled off the next three goals to make it 11-4.
Michelle Pecoraro (Kings Park, NY) scored twice late in the quarter to get Maritime back within six at 12-6. However, the Privateers would pull no closer. The Roadrunners outscored Maritime 5-2 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 17-8 victory.
Pecoraro led the Privateers with three goals. Grider, meanwhile, notched five points on two goals and three assists. Garcia added two goals to go along with eight ground balls and five draw controls. Goalkeeper
Hannah Honor (Smithtown, NY) (1-5) was credited with 10 saves.
For Ramapo, Kassidy Baez finished with five goals and three assists. Meri Cassidy tallied six points (three goals, three assists), and Bethany Glaser scored four times. In addition to recording a pair of goals, Leah Whitney contributed six ground balls and four draw controls. Jada Oddo also picked up six ground balls, while Erin Smeilus had a game-high 10 draw controls. Daniella Indomencio (5-6) made nine saves in the winning effort for the Roadrunners.
After starting the season with six straight at home, Maritime plays four of its final five contests on the road. The Privateers (1-1 Skyline) resume their Skyline Conference slate with a 4 p.m. matchup at Old Westbury (0-6, 0-4 Skyline) on Tuesday.
