Privateers Fall In Non-Conference Finale

HOBOKEN, NJ – The Maritime College men's lacrosse team was set to visit Stevens on Feb. 25, but the game was postponed because of the winter storm.  The Privateers and Ducks finally squared off in the rescheduled contest on Friday night.  In Maritime's final non-conference tilt of the season, the Privateers (8-2) dropped a 19-7 decision to Stevens (8-2) at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.

It was a 1-1 game late in the first quarter when the Ducks went on a 3-0 rally to open up a 4-1 edge.  Ryan Hannaford (Bayport, NY) scored just before the end of the period to pull Maritime within two, 4-2, but Stevens opened the second quarter with three straight goals to increase its cushion to 7-2.  The Ducks held an 8-3 advantage at intermission.

Stevens then notched the first two goals of the third quarter to extend the margin to 10-3.  A Nick Uzakewicz (Hauppauge, NY) tally brought the Privateers within 12-5 with 1:18 left in the third.  The Ducks outscored Maritime 7-2 in the fourth quarter, though, to pull away for a 19-7 victory.

Hannaford and Uzakewicz had a hand in six of the Privateers' seven goals.  Hannaford scored twice and added four assists, while Uzakewicz finished with three goals and an assist.  Jack Kane (Buffalo, NY) and Michael Weigand (Massapequa, NY) were the other Maritime goal scorers.  In addition to making a career-high 22 saves, Cristian Scaffaro (Brookhaven, NY) (3-5) collected a team-best seven ground balls.

Jack Tenaglia led Stevens with six points on three goals and three assists.  Connor Moore tallied three goals and an assist, and Adam DeCristofaro also posted a hat trick.  Chris Ciccarello, meanwhile, contributed two goals and an assist.  Three different Ducks picked up five ground balls, as Stevens held a 44-22 edge in that category.  Luke Lesizza was credited with four ground balls and five caused turnovers, while Michael Janotte (8-2) recorded six saves.

After playing four straight on the road, the Privateers will be back at Reinhart Field for three of their next four contests.  Maritime (1-0 Skyline) begins the string by hosting Mount St. Mary (3-6, 1-0 Skyline) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
