THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College women's lacrosse team welcomed Delaware Valley to Reinhart Field on Saturday. It was a 3-3 game with 12:10 left in the second quarter before the Aggies (2-0) went on a 6-0 run to pull away in an eventual 12-6 triumph over the Privateers (0-2).
After the teams traded goals in the first quarter, Charley Lengel-Kramer gave Delaware Valley a 3-2 lead with her tally at the 14:19 mark of the second period.
Eva Garcia (Rockville Centre, NY) then tied the game two minutes later. However, the Aggies ended the first half with four unanswered scores to open up a 7-3 advantage.
Delaware State extended the margin to 9-3 before
Paige Grider (Oak Ridge, NJ) got Maritime back on the board with 16 seconds left in the third quarter. The Aggies outscored the Privateers 3-2 in the fourth quarter to close out a 12-6 victory.
Garcia
had a hat trick for Maritime. She also recorded four draw controls.
Michelle Pecoraro (Kings Park, NY) scored twice and picked up three ground balls. Grider, meanwhile, finished with a goal, an assist and five draw controls.
Natalie Boeri (Smithtown, NY) paced the Privateers with four ground balls, and goalkeeper
Hannah Honor (Smithtown, NY) (0-2) made 17 saves in a losing effort.
For Delaware State, Lengel-Kramer led the way with four goals to go along with four ground balls. Emmy Gagnon, Gabriella Guerra and Daisy Kovacs added two tallies apiece. Shaelynn Castanaga-Acerra collected five ground balls, as the Aggies held a 29-15 edge in that category. In addition to picking up seven ground balls, Emily Drake (2-0) was credited with 14 saves in net.
Up next for Maritime is a 12 p.m. matchup at FDU-Florham (1-2) next Saturday. It will be the Privateers' only road contest in a seven-game stretch to start the season.
