Maritime Stumbles Against Manhattanville

THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College women's lacrosse team welcomed Manhattanville to Reinhart Field on Friday night.  In a rematch of the 2025 Skyline Conference Tournament quarterfinals, the Valiants (4-5, 2-1 Skyline) notched a 17-9 win over the Privateers (0-4, 0-2 Skyline).

Michelle Pecoraro (Kings Park, NY) opened the scoring just 1:20 into the contest and added another goal at the 5:33 mark of the first quarter.  Manhattanville held a 4-3 lead when Eva Garcia (Rockville Centre, NY) found the back of the net with 16 seconds left in the period to tie the game at 4-4 heading into the second quarter.  However, the Valiants outscored Maritime 6-1 in the second quarter to take a 10-5 advantage at the break.

After Manhattanville extended its cushion to 13-5, Pecoraro scored to start a 3-1 run that brought the Privateers within 15-9.  Maritime would pull no closer, though, as the Valiants added a pair of late tallies to close out a 17-9 victory, their first over the Privateers since 2019.  Maritime had won the previous six games in the series.

Pecoraro and Garcia finished with four goals apiece, and Pecoraro also distributed two assists.  Paige Grider (Oak Ridge, NJ) had the Privateers' other tally to go along with three draw controls.  In addition to picking up a career-high seven ground balls, Mia Brandenstein (West Islip, NY) controlled six draws.  Goalkeeper Hannah Honor (Smithtown, NY) (0-4) was credited with nine saves.

For Manhattanville, Kaci Pierce led the way with five goals.  Kathleen O'Mara tallied four goals and two assists, and Pietra Cabral had seven points on three goals and four assists.  She also recorded four draw controls.  Jocelyn Mazo secured five draw controls, while Sydney Natale and Ashley Glass each picked up three ground balls.  Megan McDonald started in net and made two saves before being relieved by Maura Spruck (3-2), who earned the win after notching four saves and three ground balls.

Up next for Maritime is a 6 p.m. matchup with Purchase (0-5, 0-2 Skyline) at Reinhart Field on Wednesday.
