Privateers Drop 2026 Opener to Drew

THROGGS NECK, NY – On Friday, the Maritime College women's lacrosse team began its 2026 campaign by welcoming Drew to Reinhart Field.  The Rangers (2-1) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, earning a 20-4 victory in their first-ever matchup against the Privateers (0-1).

Drew's Madi Strong scored three times in the first five minutes of the game, as the Rangers built a 4-0 cushion.  After an Eva Garcia (Rockville Centre, NY) free position goal put Maritime on the board, Drew rattled off nine straight tallies to extend the margin to 13-1 at halftime.

Michelle Pecoraro (Kings Park, NY) snapped the Privateers' scoring drought midway through the third quarter, then Mia Brandenstein (West Islip, NY) and Ava Morrill (New Windsor, NY) each found the back of the net in the fourth quarter to make it 16-4.  The Rangers finished the game on a 4-0 run to seal a 20-4 win.

In addition to her goal, Brandenstein led Maritime with three ground balls and two draw controls.  Goalkeeper Hannah Honor (Smithtown, NY) (0-1) also picked up three ground balls to go along with her nine saves.  Morrill, meanwhile, was credited with a goal and an assist.

For Drew, Strong collected seven points on five goals and two assists.  Aubrey Welch had four goals, one assist and six draw controls, while Hayden Scotti contributed three goals and two assists.  Emma Gallaro added two goals and two assists for the Rangers, and Emily Monaco secured a game-high four ground balls to go along with four draw controls.  Kristina Lowe also controlled four draws and scored twice.  Starting goalkeeper Paige Shaw (2-1) earned the win after allowing just one goal over the first 30 minutes.  Rorrie Sifers and Annie Durante each played a quarter in the second half.

Up next for the Privateers is a 12 p.m. matchup with Delaware Valley (0-0) at Reinhart Field on Saturday, March 7.  It will be the first ever meeting between the schools.
