Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Three Score 20 Points As Privateers Hit Century Mark

THROGGS NECK, NY – Jake Devaney (Washingtonville, NY), Zion Williams (Indianapolis, IN) and Tyler Anderson (Smithtown, NY) combined for 72 points on Wednesday night, as the Maritime College men's basketball team (10-8, 6-3 Skyline) rolled to a 106-82 victory over Mount St. Vincent (2-16, 1-8 Skyline) at Riesenberg Gymnasium.  It was the Privateers' first time reaching the 100-point plateau since Dec. 4, 2007, when Maritime beat Bard 101-77.

Devaney finished with 27 points to go along with seven rebounds and four blocks.  Williams had 25 points, nine boards and three assists, while Anderson tallied 22 points and six rebounds.  He added six assists and four steals.  They're the first trio of Privateers to all score 20 points in the same game since Ryan Donovan (31), Jaylin Gray (29) and Mike Regan (20) achieved the feat at Purchase on Feb. 16, 2022.

Chris Zaveckas (Merrick, NY) contributed 12 points on four treys.  As a team, the Privateers sank 14 three-pointers to match the single-game program record last achieved against Medgar Evers on Nov. 13, 2024.  Maritime shot 50 percent (14-of-28) from long range in the contest.  Overall, the Privateers were 38-for-75 (50.7 percent) from the field and 16-for-18 (88.9 percent) at the free throw line.

Maritime raced out to a 7-0 lead after just two minutes of action, but the Dolphins responded with a 7-3 run to pull within 10-7.  After Mount St. Vincent trimmed its deficit to two, 17-15, Anderson drained back-to-back treys to bring the margin back to eight, 23-15, midway through the first half.  The Privateers opened up a 12-point cushion, 31-19, on Frank Sweeney's (Rockville Centre, NY) putback at the 7:34 mark before the Dolphins used a 22-12 rally to again make it a two-point game, 43-41.  Williams beat the halftime buzzer with a layup to increase Maritime's advantage to four, 45-41, at the break.

The Privateers then began the second half on a 23-9 run that extended the margin to 68-50.  Mount St. Vincent got back within 12 at 70-58, but Maritime countered with a 14-5 spurt to go up by 21 points, 84-63.  Franklin Santos (Ossining, NY) drained a three with 2:05 remaining to put the Privateers over the century mark and open up the largest lead of the night, 102-75.  A layup by Jaylen Jean-Louis (Freeport, NY) capped the scoring in Maritime's 106-82 win.

For Mount St. Vincent, Eric Woodberry led the way with 22 points.  Alex Chi notched 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists, and Joel Gado also pulled down seven boards.  He added 10 points, four assists and two blocks.  The Dolphins shot a combined 44.3 percent (31-of-70) from the field, including 35.7 percent (10-of-28) from three-point land, and 66.7 percent (10-of-15) at the charity stripe.

On Saturday, the Privateers travel to Sarah Lawrence (11-7, 8-1 Skyline) for a 12 p.m. matchup.  It will mark the start of a string where Maritime plays five of its final seven games on the road.
