Privateers’ Home Unbeaten Streak Snapped By Mount St. Vincent

THROGGS NECK, NY – Entering Saturday afternoon's contest with Mount St. Vincent, the Maritime College men's soccer team hadn't lost at home since Oct. 21, 2023—a span of 14 consecutive games.  The Privateers (4-1-1, 0-1-1 Skyline) saw their home unbeaten streak came to an end with a 5-3 loss to the Dolphins (5-0-0, 1-0-0 Skyline) at Reinhart Field.

Mount St. Vincent jumped out to a 4-0 halftime lead.  The Dolphins then added a fifth goal early in the second half before Maritime started its comeback effort in the 57th minute.  Jack Young (Floral Park, NY) took a free kick from just outside the box and connected with Georgios Tsatalios (Athens, Greece), who headed it in to get the Privateers on the board.  PJ Kakalos (Merrick, NY) then made it 5-2 with his 62nd-minute rebound of Jeferson Blanco's (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) attempt that hit the crossbar.

In the 76th minute, Jake Rodriguez (Nanuet, NY) brought Maritime within 5-3 when he headed in a George Kanellopoulos (Bayside, NY) corner kick.  That would prove to be the final margin, however, as the Privateers dropped their first home game since Mount St. Vincent's last visit to Reinhart Field.  Maritime was 10-0-4 on its home field during the streak, including 3-0-1 to start this season.

Tsatalios scored for the first time since the season opener, while Kakalos was credited with his third goal of the year and Rodriguez notched his second career tally.  Kanellopoulos now has a team-high three assists in 2025.  Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) (4-1-1) made a pair of saves in the losing effort.

Manuel Vidal had four goals for the Dolphins, including the first three.  William Sornin notched the other Mount St. Vincent tally and added an assist.  Dolphins goalkeeper Samuel Reine (5-0-0), meanwhile, recorded three saves.

On Wednesday, Maritime continues its five-game homestand with a 7 p.m. matchup against St. Joseph's LI (2-3-0, 0-1-0 Skyline).
