THROGGS NECK, NY – On Wednesday night, the Maritime College men's soccer team hosted St. Joseph's LI in a Skyline Conference matchup. The game was tied 1-1 midway through the first half, but the Golden Eagles (3-3-0, 1-1-0 Skyline) scored three unanswered goals before halftime to notch a 4-1 win over the Privateers (4-2-1, 0-2-1 Skyline) at Reinhart Field.
St. Joseph's LI got on the board first in the 21
st minute, but Maritime responded in the 25
th minute when
Nicolas Silva (Middle Village, NY) headed in a cross from
Jack Young (Floral Park, NY). The Golden Eagles regained the lead just 17 seconds later, though, then added another tally in the 27
th minute. With exactly one minute left until halftime, Jack Deutsch extended the St. Joseph's LI lead to 4-1 with his second goal of the game.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net over the final 45 minutes, and the Golden Eagles came away with a 4-1 triumph. It was the Privateers' first home loss to an opponent other than Mount St. Vincent since a 3-0 defeat against Yeshiva on Oct. 13, 2023.
Silva's goal was the second of his career and his first since he netted the game-winner over Five Towns on Sept. 15, 2023. Maritime goalkeeper
Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) (4-2-1) made seven saves in a losing effort.
Jack Deutsch had two goals for St. Joseph's LI, including the game-winner. Aris Radillo and Jack Pulisic also scored for the Golden Eagles. Dean Burchard (1-1-0), meanwhile, recorded five saves.
The Privateers are back in action on Saturday, when they welcome Merchant Marine (5-2-2, 2-0-1 Skyline) to Reinhart Field at 12 p.m. It will mark the end of Maritime's five-game homestand.
