THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College men's soccer team began Skyline Conference play by hosting Yeshiva on Wednesday night. After trailing since the 19
th minute, the Privateers (4-0-1, 0-0-1 Skyline) got an 82
nd-minute goal from
Brendan Zink (Louisville, KY) to earn a 1-1 draw against the Maccabees (1-3-3, 1-1-3 Skyline) at Reinhart Field.
Yeshiva jumped in front when Franco Busso sent a perfectly placed through ball to the right side of the box. Hadar Lavinsky finished to the lower left, giving the Maccabees a 1-0 lead. Maritime struggled to find scoring chances for much of the game, but was finally able to find an equalizer in the 82
nd minute.
Jack Young (Floral Park, NY) took a deep throw in and fed Zink, who converted a bicycle kick on a half volley into the game-tying score. It was the second straight deadlock between the teams after playing to a 0-0 result last season.
Zink's tally was his first in a Privateers uniform. Young, meanwhile, picked up his first point of the season. Goalkeeper
Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) (4-0-1) was credited with three saves.
Lavinsky notched his fifth goal of the year for Yeshiva. Ilan Ganem (1-0-3) started in net and made a pair of saves.
On Saturday, Maritime continues its five-game homestand with a 12 p.m. matchup against Mount St. Vincent (4-0-0, 0-0-0 Skyline). The contest will be followed by the women's game between the Privateers and Dolphins at 3 p.m.
