Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Maritime Makes It Three In A Row With 3-0 Triumph at York

JAMAICA, NY – A week off didn't slow the Maritime College men's soccer team's early-season momentum.  In their first road game of the year, the Privateers (3-0-0) notched a 3-0 victory over York (0-2-0) at the York College Outdoor Athletic Complex on Wednesday afternoon.

Maritime nearly got on the board in the fifth minute when Georgios Tsatalios (Athens, Greece) hit the crossbar.  The Privateers then opened the scoring in the 27th minute.  Chris Vazquez (Woodhaven, NY) took a cross from George Kanellopoulos (Bayside, NY) and put it home for his first goal of the season.  The Cardinals came close to tying it just before the first half, but Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) made the save to preserve the 1-0 advantage.

In the 58th minute, Maritime doubled its cushion on a strike by Jude Callan (Centerport, NY).  The Privateers were awarded a penalty kick after York was called for a foul in the box in the 71st minute.  Carson Sadler (Gilford, NH) stepped up and deposited it into the net to make it 3-0.  That would prove to be the final score, as Maritime recorded its first clean sheet since a streak of four consecutive shutouts last season from Oct. 9-18.

The victory snapped a 14-game road winless streak for the Privateers.  Maritime's last win away from home was a Mount St. Vincent forfeit on Oct. 25, 2022.  The Privateers hadn't earned an outright road victory since a 1-0 triumph at Old Westbury on Oct. 16, 2021.

Sadler has now scored in all three of Maritime's games this season and has five goals on the year.  Vazquez was credited with the game-winner for the first time in his career, while Callan's tally was his first since Oct. 12, 2024.  Lebron (3-0-0) made four saves in 76 minutes to earn the win.  Louis Luparello (North Bellmore, NY) played the final 14 minutes in net.

York goalkeeper George Molina (0-2-0) faced 25 shots, including 17 in the second half, and recorded eight saves in a losing effort.

On Friday night, the Privateers welcome Centenary (1-2-0) to Reinhart Field for a 7 p.m. contest.  It will be the start of a five-game homestand for Maritime.
