THROGGS NECK, NY – In its first game on the new turf at Reinhart Field, and its first game under new Head Coach
Dan Cinelli, the Maritime College men's soccer team scored four times in the first half on Friday afternoon. The Privateers (1-0-0) got three goals from freshman in a 4-1 triumph over Brooklyn (0-1-0), their first season-opening victory since 2021.
Cinelli told the team before the game that he wanted a goal within the first 10 minutes. It took 10 minutes and seven seconds.
Carson Sadler (Gilford, NH) found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper and slipped it into the empty net to give Maritime a 1-0 lead. The Privateers doubled their advantage in the 24
th minute, when
Finn Richmond (Cold Spring Harbor, NY) put one home. Sadler then assisted on a tally by
Georgios Tsatalios (Athens, Greece) in the 28
th minute before sending a rocket past the keeper from 30 yards out in the 39
th minute. Maritime had four goals on five shots in the first half.
After Richmond nearly made it 5-0 in the 60
th minute, Andrew Gavrilov put the Bulldogs on the board with a blast from the left side of the box. That's all Brooklyn would get, though, as
Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) (1-0-0) made four of his five saves in the second half of the Privateers' 4-1 victory.
Sadler tallied five points in his collegiate debut on two goals and an assist. Richmond also notched a goal in his first college game, while Tsatalios has now scored in consecutive contests dating back to the 2024 season finale.
Wilson Munoz (0-1-0) started in goal for the Bulldogs and took the loss. Juan Carlos Solis Cazares shut out Maritime in the second half and was credited with three saves.
Up next for the Privateers is a 7 p.m. matchup with Five Towns (1-0-0) at Reinhart Field on Tuesday. The teams met every year from 2021-23, but didn't face each other last season.
