Privateers Drop One-Goal Decision to Farmingdale

THROGGS NECK, NY – On Friday night, the Maritime College women's lacrosse team took on Farmingdale for the first time since last season's Skyline Conference Championship Game.  In a contest that saw multiple scoring runs by both teams, the Rams (4-6, 3-0 Skyline) recorded the final tally to notch a 14-13 win over the Privateers (5-5, 2-1 Skyline) at Reinhart Field.

Farmingdale raced out to a 6-1 advantage before Maritime rattled off four straight goals to pull within 6-5 at halftime.  Morgan Tracy (Cambridge, MD) then found the back of the net 33 seconds into the third quarter to level the score at 6-6.  The Rams responded with four of the next five tallies to go ahead 10-7, but the Privateers responded with a 4-0 rally of their own.  Maritime took its first lead, 11-10, on Tracy's goal with 3:10 left in the third quarter.

After Emily Sohm scored twice early in the fourth quarter to put Farmingdale back in front, Tracy tied it again at 12-12 with 10:08 remaining.  The teams traded goals before Sohm put one away at the 4:12 mark to give the Rams a 14-13 edge.  The Privateers had a chance to tie the game late, but Gabrielle Nicolosi's (West Islip, NY) shot with 43 seconds to go was saved by Farmingdale goalkeeper Giavanna Stamatelo.  The Rams then ran out the clock on the one-goal victory, their first regular season win over Maritime since 2022.

Nicolosi paced the Privateers with four goals, while Tracy tallied four points on three goals and an assist.  She also finished with a team-high five ground balls to go along with six draw controls.  Michelle Pecoraro (Kings Park, NY) and Paige Grider (Oak Ridge, NJ) each scored twice for Maritime.  Kiera Ford (Montgomery, NY) controlled six draws and Gia DiToma (Syracuse, NY) caused three turnovers.  Tori Koenig (Roxbury, NJ) (5-5), meanwhile, notched nine saves and picked up three ground balls.

For Farmingdale, Jules Loughran led the way with six goals.  Sohm scored four times, while Carly Livingston posted three goals and an assist.  She added a squad-best five ground balls.  Molly Epsey recorded seven draw controls.  Stamatelo (4-6) made 16 saves for the Rams.

Up next for the Privateers is a 6 p.m. matchup at Purchase (0-6, 0-3 Skyline) on Wednesday.
