PURCHASE, NY – Ten different players scored for the Maritime College women's lacrosse team on Wednesday night, as the Privateers (6-5, 3-1 Skyline) earned a dominant 18-2 victory over Purchase (0-8, 0-4 Skyline) at Purchase Turf Field.
Gabrielle Nicolosi (West Islip, NY) and
Morgan Tracy (Cambridge, MD) combined for 10 goals in the win.
Nicolosi finished with six tallies and added four assists for her fifth career 10-point game. She also picked up eight ground balls and caused three turnovers. Tracy, meanwhile, had four goals, four assists and 12 draw controls.
Paige Grider (Oak Ridge, NJ) tallied four points on a goal and three assists to go along with six ground balls and three caused turnovers. In addition to notching a goal and an assist,
Mary Cirelli (Oreland, PA) recorded seven ground balls, five caused turnovers and three draw controls.
Natalie Boeri (Smithtown, NY),
Mia Brandenstein (West Islip, NY) and
Jamie Griffin (Cortlandt Manor, NY) each scored for the first time in their collegiate careers, and
Eva Garcia (Rockville Centre, NY) picked up a career-best four ground balls.
Maritime got on the board just 1:31 into the contest and had an 8-0 lead after one quarter. After the Privateers extended the margin to 9-0 on
Kiera Ford's (Montgomery, NY) goal early in the second quarter, Julieth Velasquez found the back of the net for the Panthers. Maritime increased its cushion to 11-1 at halftime, then outscored Purchase 3-0 in the third quarter to open up a 14-1 advantage. Griffin's tally with 22 seconds left in the third quarter wrapped up the scoring in the Privateers' 18-2 triumph.
Velasquez had three ground balls and four caused turnovers while also scoring both of the Panthers' goals. Goalkeeper Amani Jamal (0-8) paced Purchase with five ground balls to go along with her 13 saves.
On Tuesday, Maritime hosts Merchant Marine (7-2, 4-0 Skyline) at 7 p.m. It will be the first meeting between the teams since the Privateers upset the Mariners in the semifinals of last season's Skyline Tournament.
