Record-Setting Day for Uzakewicz In Regular Season Finale

RIVERDALE, NY – Nicholas Uzakewicz (Hauppauge, NY) broke a pair of Maritime College men's lacrosse program records in the Privateers' regular season finale at Mount St. Vincent on Saturday.  He set a single-game standard with 13 points and also became Maritime's single-season record-holder for assists, as the Privateers (8-7, 6-1 Skyline) earned their sixth straight win, 24-12 over the Dolphins (5-10, 2-5 Skyline) at the Athletic Field at Marillac.

Uzakewicz had six goals and seven assists in the contest.  The seven assists matched the single-game school record, while his 13 points were one more than the previous mark held by Parker Reilly (April 5, 2024) and Charles Longo (April 8, 2023).  He now has 46 assists on the season, bettering Connor Tomich's (Sayville, NY) 2023 total of 42.

Tomich tallied eight points on Saturday with four goals and four assists.  Ryan Hannaford (Bayport, NY) contributed three goals and an assist, while Ryan Brice (Wall, NJ) and Nick LiPuma (Bayport, NY) each recorded a hat trick.  Joseph Fazio (Massapequa, NY) posted five points on two goals and three assists, and Tyler Mahood (Sleepy Hollow, NY) also scored twice.

In addition to notching a goal and two assists, Joseph Bruno (East Islip, NY) led Maritime with six ground balls.  Ryan Giambone (Coram, NY) added five ground balls for the Privateers, who held a 43-26 advantage in that category.  Michael Monahan (Ronkonkoma, NY) (8-6) started in goal and earned the win.  He made five saves in the first half.  Cristian Scaffaro (Brookhaven, NY) was credited with four saves, and James O'Malley (Northport, NY) stopped three shots.

Maritime got on the board just 21 seconds into the game.  Bruno won the opening faceoff and took a shot that was saved before picking up the ground ball and feeding Tomich, who put it home.  The Privateers led 5-0 at the end of the first quarter and scored the first 13 goals of the contest.  After Mount St. Vincent broke through on Rene Alamo's tally at the 6:18 mark of the second quarter, Maritime rattled off three straight to extend the margin to 16-1.  Uzakewicz's fifth goal of the half made it 17-2 at halftime.

The Privateers increased their cushion to 19-3 early in the third quarter, but the Dolphins scored the next three goals to pull within 19-6.  Uzakewicz put home a man-up tally with 1:11 left in the third quarter to put Maritime in front 22-8, then notched his record-breaking 13th-point with an assist on Hannaford's goal at the 9:32 mark.  Mount St. Vincent closed out the contest with three goals to make it a final score of 24-12.

Elvis Prempeh scored four goals for the Dolphins.  Chai Dunlap and Nigel Walker each finished with two goals and an assist, while Alamo and Ethan Fajardo notched two goals apiece.  Alfred Lamptey picked up a game-high seven ground balls, and starting goalkeeper Joseph Seminatore (4-8) took the loss after recording seven first-half saves.  Max Mills and Gavin Bacchio both played a quarter in net.

For the second straight season, the Privateers finished in a three-way tie with Farmingdale and Merchant Marine for first place in the final Skyline standings.  However, Maritime ended up as the No. 3 seed on the tiebreaker and, as a result, will open the Skyline Tournament on the road.  The Privateers visit second-seeded Merchant Marine (9-5, 6-1 Skyline) in the semifinals at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.  Maritime hasn't lost since falling, 13-7, to the Mariners at Reinhart Field on April 5.
