THROGGS NECK, NY – On Wednesday night, the Maritime College women's lacrosse team honored its eight seniors prior to the regular season home finale against Old Westbury. The Privateers (8-6, 5-2 Skyline) then proceeded to clinch the No. 3 seed in next week's Skyline Conference Tournament with an 18-1 victory over the Panthers (2-8, 1-6 Skyline) at Reinhart Field.
Ten different players scored for Maritime in the win.
Gabrielle Nicolosi (West Islip, NY) finished with 14 points to become the first Privateer ever to notch 100 points in a season. She had six goals and eight assists while adding four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Gia DiToma (Syracuse, NY) recorded her first career hat trick, and
Paige Grider (Oak Ridge, NJ) also tallied three points on a goal and two assists.
Kayla Brabender (Great River, NY), meanwhile, scored her first career goal to go along with two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
In addition to controlling 16 draws,
Morgan Tracy (Cambridge, MD) notched four caused turnovers, three ground balls. She added a goal and an assist.
Kiera Ford (Montgomery, NY) contributed two goals and an assist, while
Mary Cirelli (Oreland, PA) collected four ground balls.
Tori Koenig (Roxbury, NJ) (8-6) was credited with her 20
th collegiate win after saving the only shot she faced. She played the first three quarters in goal before moving to offense for the final 15 minutes.
Nicolosi opened the scoring just 38 seconds into the contest, and Maritime had an 8-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Privateers added four goals in the second quarter (all of which were assisted by Nicolosi) to extend their advantage to 12-0 at halftime. After Nicolosi made it 17-0 midway through the fourth quarter, Katherine Campbell got Old Westbury on the board with 2:34 remaining. A late Nicolosi score closed out Maritime's 18-1 victory.
Caitlyn Subero paced the Panthers with three ground balls. Goalkeeper Jara Gonzalez (2-8) made nine saves in a losing effort.
The Privateers wrap up the regular season on Friday, when they visit Manhattanville (5-8, 3-4 Skyline) at 6 p.m.
