Maritime Rolls Past Mount St. Vincent

RIVERDALE, NY – The Maritime College women's lacrosse team got multiple goals from six different players at Mount St. Vincent on Friday afternoon.  Overall, eight different Privateers (7-6, 4-2 Skyline) found the back of the net in the 21-5 victory over the Dolphins (2-7, 2-4 Skyline) at the Athletic Field at Marillac.

Gabrielle Nicolosi (West Islip, NY) had her third double-digit point effort of the year, notching a season-high seven goals and adding four assists.  Morgan Tracy (Cambridge, MD) finished with six points on four goals and two assists.  She also tallied 11 draw controls.  Eva Garcia (Rockville Centre, NY) and Paige Grider (Oak Ridge, NJ) each posted two goals and two assists, while Mary Cirelli (Oreland, PA) contributed two goals and an assist.  Michelle Pecoraro (Kings Park, NY) scored twice, as well.

Kiera Ford (Montgomery, NY) recorded a goal and an assist to go along with four draw controls, and Mia Brandenstein (West Islip, NY) controlled seven draws.  Gia DiToma (North Syracuse, NY), meanwhile, paced Maritime with four ground balls.  Tori Koenig (Roxbury, NJ) (7-6) made seven saves in the winning effort.

After Cirelli and Pecoraro opened the scoring, Laziza Azimova put Mount St. Vincent on the board at the 6:36 mark of the first quarter.  Garcia found the back of the net just 10 seconds later, though, to start a 3-0 run, and the Privateers held a 7-2 edge at the end of the first quarter.  Maritime then outscored the Dolphins 7-2 in the second quarter to extend their advantage to 14-4 at halftime.

Nicolosi scored her seventh goal of the game less than a minute into the third quarter, and the Privateers opened up a 17-4 cushion before Isabelle Gurley snapped Mount St. Vincent's scoring drought with 4:21 left in the period.  That would prove to be the Dolphins' only goal over the final 37 minutes of the contest, as Maritime pulled away for a 21-5 triumph.

For Mount St. Vincent, Gurley led the way with three goals.  Ella Meberg notched three points on a goal and two assists, while Azimova added the Dolphins' fifth tally.  Goalkeeper Makenna Reekie (2-7) was credited with six saves in the loss.

With the victory, the Privateers clinched a spot in the Skyline Conference Tournament for the sixth consecutive time.  Maritime has two games remaining in the regular season, starting with its home finale against Old Westbury (2-7, 1-5 Skyline) at 7 p.m.  The Privateers will honor their senior class prior to the contest.
