PATCHOGUE, NY – Three Maritime College men's lacrosse program records fell on Tuesday night in the Privateers' matchup with St. Joseph's LI at Danzi Stadium. Maritime (5-7, 3-1 Skyline) established school marks for goals (28) and points (47) while winning 35 faceoffs to set a new standard in a 28-9 victory over the Golden Eagles (2-7, 0-4 Skyline).
The Privateers scored four times in a 1:42 span of the first quarter, then, after St. Joseph's LI got on the board, rattled off six more goals to make it 10-1 at the end of the period. Maritime continued its offensive onslaught in the second quarter, notching 13 unanswered tallies to increase its advantage to 23-1. The Golden Eagles' Caden Stubba found the back of the net just before halftime to make it a 23-2 game at the break.
St. Joseph's LI recorded the first goal of the third quarter, but the Privateers responded with three straight scores.
Michael Weigand's (Massapequa, NY) first collegiate tally was Maritime's 26
th of the contest, tying the single-game program record set at Purchase on April 23, 2022. The Privateers then broke the mark when
Edward Caroselli (Islip, NY) sent one past Golden Eagles goalkeeper Julian Gonzalez with 12:37 remaining in the fourth quarter. Weigand added another goal before St. Joseph's LI ended the game on a 3-0 run to pull within 28-9 at the finish.
Ryan Hannaford (Bayport, NY) led Maritime with six goals, and he added two assists.
Nicholas Uzakewicz (Hauppauge, NY), meanwhile, tallied nine points on three goals and six assists.
Connor Tomich (Sayville, NY) finished with seven points (four goals, three assists), and
Nick LiPuma (Bayport, NY) scored three times.
Joseph Bruno (East Islip, NY) had a hat trick of his own to go along with seven ground balls. He also went 17-for-18 on faceoffs.
In addition to notching two goals and an assist,
Luke Caliendo (North Babylon, NY) picked up six ground balls.
Ezra Burdette (Brownsville, MD) collected a career-best five ground balls, while
Evan Dundon (Easton, MD) secured four ground balls after winning 6-of-8 faceoffs.
Timothy DeTolla (Northport, NY) was 12-for-14 on faceoffs.
Michael Monahan (Ronkonkoma, NY) (5-6) played the first half in goal and recorded four saves to earn the win.
Stubba scored four of St. Joseph's LI's nine goals. Connor Owenburg paced the Golden Eagles with five ground balls and three caused turnovers while also recording a goal and an assist. Aidan Bayer also caused three turnovers while gathering three ground balls. Gonzalez (2-6) made eight saves in just under 50 minutes of action and took the loss.
After playing two straight on the road, each of the Privateers' next two contests are at Reinhart Field. Maritime hosts Purchase (3-9, 0-4 Skyline) at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
