PATCHOGUE, NY – After playing four out of five at home, the Maritime College women's lacrosse team hit the road for a Skyline Conference matchup with St. Joseph's LI on Tuesday. The Privateers (5-4, 2-0 Skyline) topped the Golden Eagles (0-4, 0-2 Skyline) by an 11-8 count at Danzi Stadium for their third consecutive victory.
St. Joseph's LI opened the scoring before Maritime rattled off three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead. Kaitlyn Ippolito brought the Golden Eagles back within one, but
Mary Cirelli (Oreland, PA) responded 21 seconds later to put the Privateers ahead 4-2 at the end of the first quarter. Maritime extended its advantage to 6-2 on a pair of
Morgan Tracy (Cambridge, MD) tallies and held an 8-5 edge at the break.
Two St. Joseph's LI goals early in the third quarter cut the margin to 8-7, but
Michelle Pecoraro (Kings Park, NY) put one home with 1:11 remaining in the period to make it a 9-7 game heading into the fourth quarter. Julia Stolba scored 11 seconds into the final period to again bring the Golden Eagles within one before
Eva Garcia (Rockville Centre, NY) pushed the Privateers' cushion back to two goals with 11:25 left. Pecoraro then added an insurance tally for Maritime and
Tori Koenig (Roxbury, NY) made that 11-8 lead hold up, keeping St. Joseph's off the board the rest of the way.
Tracy scored four goals and added an assist. She also paced the Privateers with five draw controls.
Gabrielle Nicolosi (West Islip, NY) finished with six points on two goals and four assists, while Pecoraro found the back of the net twice.
Mia Brandenstein (West Islip, NY) had four ground balls and four caused turnovers, and
Gia DiToma (North Syracuse, NY) picked up four ground balls to go along with three caused turnovers. In addition to gathering four ground balls, Koenig (5-4) was credited with six saves in the victory.
Stolba tallied two goals, two assists and four draw controls for the Golden Eagles. Sabrina Doyle contributed two goals and an assist, while Ippolito also scored twice. Trinity Wallace collected five ground balls and caused four turnovers, and Megan Spina controlled four draws. St. Joseph's LI goalkeeper Maggie Harding (0-4) made 14 saves and secured eight ground balls.
On Friday, Maritime will host Farmingdale (3-5, 2-0 Skyline) at 7 p.m. in a rematch of the 2024 Skyline Championship Game. The Rams won that contest, 13-10, but the Privateers have taken each of the last two regular season meetings.
