MANSFIELD, CT – The Maritime College women's lacrosse team faced Eastern Connecticut for the first time in program history on Saturday. The Privateers (1-2) were unable to come away with the victory, however, as the Warriors (4-0) earned a 20-4 win at Rick McCarthy Field.
After Eastern Connecticut's Hannah Seltzer opened the scoring,
Morgan Tracy (Cambridge, NY) tied the game with 9:35 left in the first quarter. The Warriors extended their advantage to 4-1 before Tracy found the back of the net again at the 2:35 mark. However, Eastern Connecticut responded with four straight tallies to make it 8-2, and the Warriors held a 9-3 edge at halftime.
Eastern Connecticut then outscored Maritime 7-0 in the third quarter to increase the lead to 16-3. Tracy snapped the Privateers' scoring drought in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, but the Warriors ended the contest with four straight tallies to close out a 20-4 triumph.
Tracy
scored three of Maritime's four goals and also controlled five draws.
Gabrielle Nicolosi (West Islip, NY) finished with a goal and an assist, while
Mary Cirelli (Oreland, PA) had a team-high seven draw controls.
Kiera Ford (Montgomery, NY) led the Privateers with three ground balls, and goalkeeper
Tori Koenig (Roxbury, NJ) (1-2) was credited with 14 saves.
Alexa Vizzini tallied six goals and six ground balls for Eastern Connecticut. Abby Parisi added four goals, three ground balls and three draw controls, while Avonlea LeBeau and Seltzer each recorded a hat trick. Kaylee Drobish finished with two goals, two assists and four ground balls, and Emma Oliano collected three ground balls to go along with a team-high five draw controls. Maizie Rukat (4-0) made four saves for the Warriors.
On Tuesday, Maritime begins a two-game homestand by taking on Bard (0-3) at 6 p.m. It will be the Raptors' first visit to Reinhart Field since 2011.
