Tracy Nets Game-Winner In Double OT

THROGGS NECK, NY – Morgan Tracy (Cambridge, MD) scored 40 seconds into double overtime to give the Maritime College women's lacrosse team (4-4, 1-0 Skyline) a 14-13 victory over Mount St. Mary (4-6, 0-1 Skyline) in the Skyline Conference opener at Reinhart Field on Saturday.  It was the sixth goal of the game for Tracy, who had sent the contest into the extra session with her tally at the 4:52 mark of the fourth quarter.

The Knights had a free position attempt with 52 seconds remaining in regulation, but Tori Koenig (Roxbury, NJ) made the save.  The Privateers regained possession with six seconds left and Michelle Pecoraro (Kings Park, NY) nearly won it at the buzzer.  Mount St. Mary goalkeeper Peyton Curley stopped it, though, and Maritime went to overtime for the second time in three games.

After Paige Grider's (Oak Ridge, NJ) shot was saved midway through the first overtime, Curley picked up the ground ball and the Knights took timeout.  Mount St. Mary ran the clock nearly all the way down before Karlie Ferrucci fired a point-blank attempt.  Koenig turned it away, however, to keep the game tied.  Pecoraro's shot with 10 seconds left in OT was high, forcing the second extra period.

Tracy won the draw to begin double overtime, then put home the victory 40 seconds later.  It was the Privateers' first overtime triumph since a 15-14 win at Farmingdale on April 9, 2024, as well as the first-ever double OT contest in program history.

There were five goals in the first 4:48 of the game, as Maritime opened up a 3-2 lead.  After the Knights knotted the score at 4-4, Tracy scored with 1:18 left in the first quarter to put the Privateers in front 5-4.  That tally started a 4-0 run that gave Maritime an 8-4 advantage midway through the second quarter.  Mount St. Mary followed with back-to-back goals before Tracy found the back of the net with 1:48 left until halftime to make it 9-6 at the break.

Each team scored twice in the first 4:19 of the third quarter, and it would remain 11-8 until the 4:31 mark, when Antonia Licardi found the back of the net for the Knights.  Delisianna Naccarato added a goal two minutes later to bring Mount St. Mary within one, 11-10, entering the final period.  Tracy pushed the Privateers' cushion back to two with her tally early in the fourth quarter, but the Knights followed with three scores in a little over two minutes to go in front, 13-12.  Tracy then found the equalizer with 4:52 remaining in regulation.

In addition to scoring six times (including both the tying and game-winning goals), Tracy had 10 draw controls and four caused turnovers.  Gabrielle Nicolosi (West Islip, NY) finished with nine points on four goals and five assists, while Garcia contributed a pair of tallies.  Kiera Ford (Montgomery, NY) picked up a team-high four ground balls to go along with a goal and an assist.  Mary Cirelli (Oreland, NY), meanwhile, recorded four draw controls.  Koenig (4-4) tallied 14 saves in the win.

For Mount St. Mary, Karlie Ferrucci led the way with five goals.  She added an assist and three draw controls.  Naccaratto, meanwhile, had three goals, two assists, five ground balls and five draw controls.  Shannon McGowan contributed two goals and an assist, while Licardi handed out four assists to go along with her goal.  Julia McGrinder controlled seven draws and Victoria Maffettone gathered four ground balls for the Knights.  Liz Petrellese got the start between the pipes and made four saves before giving way to Curley (2-4), who stopped five Maritime shots and took the loss.

This marked the end of a span in which the Privateers played four out of five at home.  Maritime hits the road for its next contest, a 5:30 p.m. matchup at St. Joseph's LI (0-3, 0-1 Skyline) on Tuesday.
