THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College women's lacrosse team and Lycoming were tied late in the fourth quarter on Friday afternoon. With 1.5 seconds remaining, though, Riley Block scored to give the Warriors (4-2) a 14-13 victory over the Privateers (2-3) at Reinhart Field.
Gabrielle Nicolosi (West Islip, NY) found the back of the net four times to tie for the all-time program lead in goals.
Nicolosi's tally at the 9:52 mark of the second quarter was the 155
th of her career, equaling Krista Deleva's total. She is now Maritime's all-time leader in goals, assists and points.
That score put the Privateers ahead 10-4. Lycoming ended the first half on a 3-0 run, though, to pull within 10-7 at intermission. The Warriors then added two more early in the third quarter to trim their deficit to 10-9. After Maritime pushed the margin back to three, 12-9, on goals by
Morgan Tracy (Cambridge, MD) and
Mary Cirelli (Oreland, PA), Lycoming rattled off four straight to take its first lead, 13-12, with 12:18 left.
Michelle Pecoraro (Kings Park, NY) then leveled the score with 2:12 remaining.
In addition to scoring four goals, Nicolosi handed out two assists and picked up four ground balls.
Eva Garcia (Rockville Centre, NY) had two goals and three assists, while Tracy finished with two goals and two assists to go along with four ground balls, eight draw controls and three caused turnovers. Cirelli recorded two goals and an assist, and
Kiera Ford (Montgomery, NY) collected four ground balls. Goalkeeper
Tori Koenig (Roxbury, NJ) (2-3) was credited with 11 saves.
Block's game-winning tally was her sixth of the game. She also had an assist and eight draw controls. Katie Maguire contributed four goals and an assist to go along with six ground balls and seven draw controls. Alexa Baldwin, meanwhile, posted two goals and three assists for the Warriors. Emma Yanders (4-2) made 15 saves in net.
Up next for the Privateers is a 3 p.m. matchup at Kean (0-4) on Wednesday. It will be the first meeting between the teams since 2013.
