Maritime Defeated By Coast Guard In 2025 Opener

THROGGS NECK, NY – On Saturday afternoon, the Maritime College women's lacrosse team began its 2025 season by welcoming Coast Guard to Reinhart Field for the first time in nine years.  The Bears (1-0) jumped out to a fast start never looked back in a 20-4 victory over the Privateers (0-1).

Coast Guard outscored Maritime 7-0 in the first quarter and had a 10-0 lead before Kiera Ford (Montgomery, NY) got the Privateers on the board with a free position tally midway through the second quarter.  The Bears added two more goals to extend their advantage to 12-1 at halftime. 

Ford found the back of the net again 44 seconds into the third quarter and finished with three of Maritime's four goals in the contest.  She completed a hat trick off an assist from Gabrielle Nicolosi (West Islip, NY) at the 7:24 mark of the third quarter, but Coast Guard responded with four straight tallies.  After Nicolosi scored with 6:40 remaining, the Bears tallied three late goals to close out the 20-4 win.

In addition to scoring three times, Ford led the Privateer with four draw controls.  Morgan Tracy (Cambridge, MD) also controlled four draws, while goalkeeper Tori Koenig (Roxbury, NJ) (0-1) collected three ground balls to go along with 10 saves.

Caitlyn Coates and Abby McAllister each notched seven points for the Bears.  Coates recorded six goals and an assist, while McAllister finished with three goals and four assists.  Laine Weber and Hannah Warnke also posted hat tricks for Coast Guard.  Katie Kogler tallied five draw controls, and Rileigh Leary notched four draw controls while adding two goals and two assists.  In addition to picking up a game-high five ground balls, Maici Mintchwarner (1-0) was credited with three saves.

Maritime now has a week off before returning to action.  The Privateers visit Ramapo (2-0) next Saturday at 1 p.m.  Maritime has defeated the Roadrunners in each of the past three seasons.
