NEW YORK – For the first time since 2017, the Maritime College volleyball team has posted double-digit wins. The Privateers (10-12, 3-7 Skyline) picked up their 10
th victory of the season on Sunday, knocking off Yeshiva (2-13, 0-10 Skyline) by a 25-22, 25-17, 25-10 count at Baruch College's ARC Arena.
Addison Weist (Staten Island, NY ) notched her third double-double of the season, finishing with 13 kills and 15 digs.
Andressa Dias-Moreira (Forest Hills, NY) also had 15 digs to go along with seven kills and five assists.
Ashley Pavarini (Ossining, NY) handed out 19 assists, while
Joan Anastasiades (Rockaway Beach, NY) notched 10 digs and a career-best seven service aces.
Maritime jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first set and still held an 8-5 advantage when the Maccabees went on a 9-1 run to go up, 14-9. The Privateers responded with an 8-2 spurt, however, to regain a one-point cushion, 17-16. There were 10 ties and seven lead changes, with Anastasiades serving an ace to break the last of those deadlocks and put Maritime in front 23-22.
Lizzie Phillips (Carthage, NY) followed with a kill before another Anastasiades ace wrapped up the set, 25-22.
In the second set, the Privateers again built an early 4-1 lead. After Maritime extended the margin to 11-6, the Maccabees scored four of the next five points to pull within 12-10. Anastasiades was credited with a kill to start a 7-1 spurt, however, increasing the Privateers' advantage to 20-11. Yeshiva trimmed its deficit to 20-16 before Maritime went on another 4-0 rally. An
Emma DeMuro (Mahopac, NY) kill capped the 25-17 set win that gave the Privateers a 2-0 edge in the match.
After Maritime opened up a 7-2 advantage in the third set, the Maccabees rattled off three straight points to get within 7-5. However, the Privateers scored 15 of the next 18 points to increase their lead to 22-8. Maritime closed out the victory by clinching a 25-10 third-set win.
Elle Ohayan led the Maccabees with seven kills. She also tallied 13 digs. Emma Lieber had a match-high 23 digs, as Yeshiva held a 69-56 edge in that category. Progress Gasa contributed 11 digs, and Naava Bodek distributed 13 assists.
The Privateers have one match remaining in the 2025 season. Maritime concludes the campaign by visiting Mount St. Mary (10-14, 6-4 Skyline) at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
