NEWBURGH, NY – On Wednesday, the Maritime College volleyball team wrapped up the 2025 season with a visit to Mount St. Mary. After picking up their 10
th win of the year on Sunday, the Privateers (10-13, 3-8 Skyline) capped the campaign with a 25-6, 25-21, 25-15 loss to the Knights (11-14, 7-4 Skyline) at the Kaplan Center.
Mount St. Mary scored the first five points of the match before Maritime pulled within 7-4 on a block by
Grace Devaney (Lynbrook, NY) and
Emma DeMuro (Mahopac, NY). However, the Knights ended the first set on an 18-2 run to claim a 25-6 win.
After Mount St. Mary opened up a 4-1 advantage in the second set, the Privateers responded with a 4-1 run of their own to level the score at 5-5. An
Alexa Nolan (Queens, NY) kill gave Maritime a 12-10 lead before the Knights used a 12-6 spurt to pull ahead, 22-16. The Privateers got back within three at 22-19, but Mount St. Mary closed out the set, 25-21, to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Knights built an early 5-0 cushion in the third set, and eventually extended the margin to 8-2. After Maritime trimmed its deficit to 9-6, Mount St. Mary scored 11 of the next 14 points to increase its advantage to 20-9. The Privateers countered with a 6-2 rally that brought them within seven at 22-15 before the Knights captured the next three points to secure a 25-15 set win and a 3-0 sweep.
Addison Weist (Staten Island, NY) and
Ashley Pavarini (Ossining, NY) paced Maritime with five kills apiece.
Joan Anastasiades (Rockaway Beach, NY) finished with a team-high nine digs, while
Mikaela Thiel (Fort Morgan, CO) distributed 11 assists.
For Mount St. Mary, Julianna Simone recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs. She posted a .391 hitting percentage, as the Knights hit a combined .253 (31 kills, 11 errors, 79 attempts) in the match. Vanessa Seymour handed out 13 assists and Sofia Fredericks added 12 assists, while Nicolette Pirro tallied five service aces.
The Privateers' 10 victories this season were their most since 2017.
