THROGGS NECK, NY – Junior Rowan Hayes (Floral Park, NY) of the Maritime College men's swimming & diving team has been chosen as the Skyline Conference Swimmer of the Week.  He won three individual events in the Privateers' dual meet triumph over William Paterson on Tuesday, then earned Maritime's only individual victory in a Skyline met with Merchant Marine, Mount St. Mary and St. Joseph's LI on Friday.

In the matchup with William Paterson, Hayes took first in the 100 yard breaststroke (58.76) and 200 yard breaststroke (2:15.51) before winning the 200 yard individual medley (2:04.00) to give the Privateers a 10-point lead heading into the final relay.  He also swam the breaststroke leg on the 200 yard medley relay squad that opened the meet with a victory. 

Then on Friday, he posted a time of 2:12.33 in the 200 breaststroke to claim the overall win against conference foes Merchant Marine, Mount St. Mary and St. Joseph's LI.  Hayes added a second-place finish in the 50 yard freestyle (22.32) and was a member of Maritime's 400 yard freestyle relay team that placed second.  The Privateers went 2-1 at the meet, defeating both the Knights and Golden Eagles while falling to the Mariners.

This marks the fourth time in his career that Hayes has been named Skyline Swimmer of the Week.  He earned the award three times in a four-week stretch last season.  In addition, Hayes received two Skyline Rookie of the Week nods in 2023-24.

Maritime's men will be off until Jan. 14, when they visit York in their final dual meet of the season.  The Privateer women, meanwhile, welcome Hunter to the Riesenberg Aquatics Center on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. meet.
