KINGS POINT, NY – On Friday night, the Maritime College men's and women's swimming & diving teams traveled to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy for a quad meet against three Skyline Conference opponents. The Privateer men earned a pair of victories over Mount St. Mary and St. Joseph's LI while falling to the host Mariners. The Maritime women's squad, meanwhile, were defeated by all three foes.
Rowan Hayes (Floral Park, NY) had the Privateers' only first-place result in the 200 yard breaststroke, finishing in 2:12.33. He also grabbed second in the 50 yard freestyle with a 22.32-second clocking.
Alex Osypenko (Oyster Bay, NY) added a second-place showing in the 500 yard freestyle (5:25.20). Hayes and Osypenko later teamed with
Matt Klimek (Malverne, NY) and
Liam MacManus (Islip, NY) to take second in the meet-ending 400 yard freestyle relay (3:24.27).
Michael Saharov (Staten Island, NY) placed second in the 100 yard freestyle (54.45) to go along with a third-place effort in the 200 yard individual medley (2:25.24).
Johnny Walz (Staten Island, NY) competed in his first one-meter diving event of the year and tallied 174.08 points, which was good for second place overall. Klimek grabbed third place in the 200 yard backstroke (2:28.78), finishing just ahead of fourth-place
Victor Pineda's (Bronx, NY) time of 2:29.21. Pineda secured third place in the 100 yard backstroke with a 1:07.30 clocking.
In the dual meet scoring, Maritime earned a 188-50 win over St. Joseph's LI and a 170-69 triumph against Mount St. Mary. The Privateers lost to Merchant Marine by a 202-73 count.
Oceana Elefante (Sayville, NY) boasted Maritime's best result on the women's side. She grabbed third place in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 1:03.16. Elefante added a fifth-place effort in the 200 yard freestyle (2:28.03).
Emily Bryant (Hilliard, OH) was fourth in the 200 backstroke (3:06.89), while
Rebecca Kmiotek (Lindenhurst, NY) notched a fourth-place clocking of 7:38.21 in the 500 yard freestyle.
The Privateers dropped all three matchups in the dual meet scoring. Maritime suffered a 187-49 defeat against Merchant Marine and fell to St. Joseph's LI by a 163-63 count. Mount St. Mary, meanwhile, earned a 150-54 triumph over the Privateers.
While this was the final competition of 2025 for the men's team, the Maritime women have one meet remaining before the holiday break. Hunter visits the Riesenberg Aquatics Center on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
