Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Maritime Beats Medgar Evers In Non-Conference Finale

THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College men's soccer team got two goals 17 seconds apart in the seventh minute of its non-conference finale on Monday night.  The Privateers (6-3-2) cruised from there, notching a 6-0 victory over Medgar Evers (1-6-1) at Reinhart Field.

Carson Sadler (Gilford, NH) opened the scoring when he put home the rebound after Finn Richmond's (Cold Spring Harbor, NY) attempt was saved.  Maritime immediately added another tally, with Richmond finding Jude Callan (Centerport, NY), who put home a blast from just outside the box.  Richmond and Sadler connected again in the 10th minute.  The beautiful give-and-go play gave the Privateers a 3-0 lead.

Jeferson Blanco (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) entered the game as a substitute in the 20th minute and made an instant impact.  He scored seconds after checking in, then added another barely a minute later.  In the 36th minute, a loose ball in the box found its way to Conor Espinoza (Williston, NY), who snuck one under the crossbar for his first collegiate goal.

Maritime nearly added another tally in the 68th minute, but it was played off the goal line by Cougars' defense, keeping the score at 6-0.  Despite outshooting Medgar Evers 18-0 in the second half, the Privateers were unable to sneak another one past the goalkeeper and the contest ended as a 6-0 victory.  The six goals were Maritime's most in a game since a 10-3 win over York on Sept. 12, 2023, and the Privateers earned their fourth shutout of the season.

Sadler recorded his third brace of the year, while Blanco notched his first two goals this season.  Richmond was credited with three assists.  Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) (6-3-2) played the first 19 minutes in net and earned the victory.  Aidan Slovensky (Commack, NY) made his debut in relief and had one save in 70 minutes of action.

Medgar Evers goalkeeper Clirian Nunez (0-6-1) faced 42 shots and tallied 10 saves.

On Saturday, Maritime (1-3-2 Skyline) resumes its Skyline slate with a 6 p.m. matchup at Sarah Lawrence (4-5-3, 1-3-1 Skyline).  The Privateers' next two games are both on the road.
